Episode 2: "Less is More" #lwordgenqrecap
Episode Two opens with another hot sex scene… sike! We are rudely interrupted by Nat’s crazy ex Gigi. Dani informs Sofie about her new job with Bette, [apparently they are the kind of couple who doesn’t discuss big decisions.] meanwhile Sophie is passive aggressive and sarcastic with Dani. Hey at least if Dani is going to act like Bette and treat Sophie like Tina we know Sophie won’t take it! Shots fired!! Dani also seemed to “forget” to tell her dad (her former employer) about the job and the proposal. He too was shocked by Dani’s new career and future wife. Oh yea and Micah has a date with hottie neighbor, but apparently no one cares.
We called it, Finley moved in with Shane, hold up… is she wearing jorts? What the Fuck?!? Dani is surprised she doesn’t have an office and Bette is bragging about her MASSIVE Judy Chicago painting. Glad to see art is still a huge plot point on the L Word! Alice got her show because the network bought her podcast (Remember that? Alice In Lesbo Land?). Her condescending boss says he will “always listen” to her ideas, coincidently doing the opposite. He hired a cis-straight-white man named Drew to maintain the brand… of lesbians. Oh and no big deal, Lena Waithe is name dropped. Do we see her guest starring in the near future?!?
As if we weren’t already slapped in the face by the similarities between Bette and Dani, they are literally wearing the same outfit and colors. Is this foreshadowing that Dani will cheat on Sophie?!? Bette’s past is discussed; her arrest (CAC Provocations), cheating, and then a bomb is dropped… Jenny Schecter killed herself! Mia Kirshner disagrees on twitter, dropping her own bombs about the characters storyline. Honestly, that sounds like a total Jenny move! Unfortunately something else died besides Jenny and it seems to be all the lesbian bars. There is obvious foreshadowing of Shane buying the old lesbian bar turned sports bar.
Finley seems to need liquid courage for EVERYTHING except signing for Shane’s divorce papers. Sofie is still mad at Dani, Finley almost pukes on a hook up, and Eli (Alice’s step son?) actually pukes. Somehow Shane and Alice didn’t have time to bring him back outside, to the bathroom, or honestly even the kitchen sink, but they did have time to go to the kitchen to grab a fucking crock pot. Micah’s date starts off a bit awkward but it’s cute and real and Micah has us ALL charmed. Their date ends with a hook up in the pool, which is a super nice call back to the original series (lots of pool sex).
Angie’s “friend?” Jordie kisses Bette’s booty and Bette makes everyone cry with a beautiful speech about homeless youth, trans rights and actually caring about making a community better. She has our vote! Bette Porter 2020. Alice has a heart to heart with Gigi and we find out Gigi cheated on Nat with their friend. With a conversation just shy of break up stories, are we ever gonna find out why her and Tasha broke up? Sophie and Dani have their en-gay-gement party and Sophie’s pants are DISGUSTING. Finley is drinking again, Micah didn’t invite Nathan to the party and Bette and Felicia (affair scandal) miss each other!
Was this another set up episode? Honestly our main question is who the fuck is this costume designer? Its like they’re trying to make these characters appear more gay and all they’re really doing is giving people FUPA’s and Dad legs. We hope the episodes get a little better and for Pete's sake, someone help the wardrobe department!
