The L Word: Generation Q Recap #3

Episode 3: "Lost Love" #lwordgenqrecap

We called it...Shane bought Atlas Bar and shes gonna flip it to make it a gay bar again. Thank goddess, we miss The Planet days and dyke nights! Do we officially have our new Planet? Bette thinks this decision is impulsive because Shane is heartbroken and Alice doesn't want Shane to shit where she eats (Lena). But its The L Word and Shane, as we know, is gonna fuck the new manager whose dating the other manager! Cut to lots of hairy armpits, nipples, and church! Finley is still hookin’ up with bar girl/church minister. We discover Finley had a very catholic upbringing and clearly there is some trauma there. Angie punches a racist bitch (THANK GOD SHE LIVES WITH BETTE) and gets expelled. Bette talks to Angie about how the rules are different for her. In other words she gets the black talk! [For those who don't know, the “black talk” is when an adult sits a child down to explain why they can't do the same things their white friends can do. We are taught very early about racism.] Back at Bette’s office, there is more chatter about the opioid crisis which has me seriously questioning where is Kit and did she die from an overdose?

Alice finds out Nat doesn't really have friends because Gigi was her best friend. Alice felt that and she invites Gigi to “hang” telling Gigi that Nat misses her. Alice and Nat have less chemistry than Alice had with Lisa during the OG L word back in 2005! When are they going to break up… we do not ship “Natlice”. Dani's dad wants her to have it at The Biltmore and Sophie is unsure because it wasn't Danis idea. Turns out, Danis dad had already booked the wedding venue. He even picked the date! This raises all the red flags. Naturally Dani and Sophie continue fighting about their wedding (this is tired and we’re bored). Sophie doesn't want to compromise with Danis dad. Dani doesn't want to hurt her dad but ends up hurting Sophie instead. This argument seems familiar and we (the audience and fans) are having major flashbacks of Bette saying “Daddy!” (cringe) and greeting her homophobic father while her belittles “Miss Kenard” and calls their eight year marriage a “friendship”. Sorry Dani, you are in the wrong! Plus Sophie keeps wearing Wildfang jumpers and looks hot, so clearly we are team Sophie!

Alice is wearing what looks like a ripped up bandana as a tie or some kind of neck piece on her show. Her guest is Megan Rapino (soccer star), whose outfit is the opposite… a gold and shimmery fitted suit and she looks BANGIN! All the lesbians are freaking out, including us!! Megan Rapino tells her coming out story and they talk about times up and equal pay in sports. The writers manage to throw a lot of current topics and politics at us. It's definitely a nice continuation of what the old series did with Bush era politics and we are here for it. Micah is wondering who the hot guy is by the pool. Jose storms in and has to cancel on Micah because he “needs to take care of some personal stuff…” which is code and always bullshit. Was that hot guy by the pool an ex perhaps? Grinder gets some screen time and Micah starts swiping! He finds a hookup he doesn't seem that into and apparently this is a “thing he does”. He then feels guilty about it and bummed about Jose. Poor Micah, so little screen time, so let down, yet so cute and emotional!

Shane makes herself a “drink?” (pure vodka) and Bette stops by with im sorry flowers. Shane misses the ex wife we have yet to meet and Tina is name dropped. Our jaws dropped too because TINA LEFT BETTE!!!! WTF TINA! Turns out she met someone else. We also learn Shane is pushin’ 40 to which Bette responds, “you’re just a baby”! How the fuck old is Bette?!?! Angie doesn't want to check a schools diversity box at another private school... praise the lord Angie!! Stay woke girl. Bette's stance on education is clearly murky and hypocritical. Bette then has a debate where we find out housing, unemployment, and education are her three pillars. And surprise, she enrolled Angie in public school, as if we didn't see that one coming. Gigi and Nat are a little too close at Bette’s speech. Alice is awkward af and being hella weird while Gigi lingers. Shane drunk texts her ex and Lena comes in talking about her struggles with Tess. Lena hits on Shane and they fuck on the desk. Finley is lighting candles at church and crying in the pew with her girl. At this point she’s obviously more than just a hookup. Sophie and Micah have a heart to heart and dance. And to end the episode “in suspense” Dani sees Felicia go to Bette’s hotel room.

Another set up episode that is somewhat boring and predictable. Luckily they have laid down groundwork for some decent stories and hopefully we start to see some drama soon. The predictability is getting old and somewhat soapy, but the outfits are getting better, the girls are getting hotter, and Alice seems to be more than just our celesbian crush!
